Packaging Case Study: Taste Original

The Brief

With a name like Taste Original, a bog-standard packaging solution was never going to cut it.

When the high-protein snack brand decided to shake up the food-to-go aisle, they knew the packaging had to work harder – not just to protect the product, but to help the brand stand out clearly in a busy market sector.

Moving away from plain lidding film with a label, Taste Original wanted to upgrade both pack format and presentation. The goal was clear: reflect the new bold and modern brand identity, and appeal to health-conscious consumers without losing core recognition. And crucially, the solution needed to meet strict sustainability goals. Naturally, this led the Taste Original team to Eco Flexibles.

Working in partnership with Taste Original, Eco Flexibles developed fully printed packaging across two formats: premium lidding film for trays, and branded snack bags for new multipack and convenience lines.

Our Approach

Kicking into high gear, Eco Flexibles engineered packaging solutions using a high-barrier mono-material structure. Crucially, this replaced complex laminates that are tricky to recycle, with food-safe films that can be recycled with ease, and don’t compromise on performance. The packaging is aligned with OPRL and CEFLEX standards for recycling.

Both formats, the digitally printed lidding film and easy-open snack bags, were produced using our Fujifilm Jet Press FP790, a ground-breaking water-based inkjet press, delivering 1200x1200dpi resolution and sharp, consistent graphics using a standard CMYK ink gamut.

The switch to digital production offers unmatched flexibility; fast approvals and zero-guesswork proofing, quick amends post-launch without waste, commercial production volumes with flexo-like quality, and reduced environmental impact by cutting solvent VOCs out of the equation.

Showing the power of real end-to-end partnership, our team supported from material trials through to final production, testing for seal strength, shelf life and transit durability. Consumer-focused functional features such as easy-peel lidding and easy-open bags were built in, to further enhance shopper satisfaction.

The new packaging doesn’t just talk the talk – it sells. Since the relaunch, Taste Original has seen a 15% uplift in food-to-go sales, backed by packaging that delivers punchy branding and powerful shelf presence.

Bold blocks of colour, standout typography, and a clean, modern layout bring the new identity to life. And under the surface, every element of the pack is built for performance and sustainability – from strong barrier protection to recyclability and low-waste production.
