Eco Flexibles celebrates Environmental Packaging Award shortlisting

Eco Flexibles has been named as a finalist for the prestigious Environmental Packaging Awards 2025, with its high-tech production supersite shortlisted for Sustainable Investment Project of the Year.

The nomination recognises the company’s bold approach to sustainability-focused flexible packaging production, through significant investment in next-generation technology at its purpose-built Northampton facility. This strategic investment focused on creating lightweight monopolymer and paper-based packaging designed for a circular economy – enabling brands to move away from traditional mixed-material packaging that typically ends up in landfill.

The shortlisting reflects Eco Flexibles’ fundamental company ethos – where sustainability is about building a culture of environmental responsibility in everything they do. This commitment to transformation runs through the company’s operations, team development, and strategic vision.

Simon Buswell, Director at Eco Flexibles, commented: “Being shortlisted for this prestigious award validates our approach to making mono-material packaging, including monopolymer and paper-based, more accessible and value-adding for brands. This approach has also seen our business go from strength to strength. We’ve always believed that with the right expertise and technology, manufacturers never have to choose between sustainability and performance – they can achieve both without compromise.”

The company’s ambitious investment included becoming the first business outside Japan to install the revolutionary Fujifilm Jet Press FP790 water-based digital inkjet press. This market-first technology combines the throughput of flexography with the precision of gravure and the flexibility of digital printing – all while eliminating harmful VOCs through its innovative water-based ink system.

Demand for Eco Flexibles’ recyclable packaging solutions has surged so dramatically that the company installed a second Fujifilm Jet Press FP790 within just 12 months, marking another industry milestone. The company has complemented these printing capabilities with a comprehensive converting setup including a Simplex SL solventless laminator from Nordmeccanica and two Karlville Swiss KS-SUP-400-D pouch making lines.

This integrated production ecosystem has established Eco Flexibles as the UK’s only manufacturer capable of designing, producing and supplying fully recyclable water-based printed monopolymer and paper pouch solutions in-house – a capability that’s driving the company’s rapid growth.

“Our investment project demonstrates how sustainability and commercial success can be perfectly aligned” added Simon. “By eliminating traditional barriers to adoption and simplifying the path to recyclability, we’re accelerating the transition toward packaging that’s truly designed for tomorrow’s circular economy. This shortlisting is also a fantastic testament to our growing team, who bring a culture of excellence to every single project we take on.”

The Environmental Packaging Awards celebrate excellence in sustainable packaging innovation, with winners to be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the Kia Oval Cricket Ground in London. The awards are part of the broader Environmental Packaging Live 2025 event, which includes the two-day Environmental Packaging Summit bringing together leaders and innovators from across the packaging sector.
